College Requirements


Licensure Track Admission Requirements


  • Fall and Spring admission.
  • Submit an application no later than the following:
    • March 1 for fall semester 
      (Feb 1 priority deadline)
    • October 1 for spring semester 
      (Sept 1 priority deadline)

  • 2.50 cumulative GPA in all post-secondary institutions
  • 2.50 cumulative GPA in academic major
  • 55 credits
  • Completion of all UHM General Education Core and any additional Pre-Licensure Requirements.
  • Applicants who have completed an articulated A.A. degree from a UH Community College are considered to have met the UHM General Education Core Requirements with possible exceptions (see an academic advisor).
  • 40 hours of documented current group leadership involvement with K-12 youth.
  • Personal admissions interview with KRS faculty.

Licensure Track Prerequisites (Minimum Grade: C- or better)

Major Requirements for BS in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science


  • Specialization: Health & Physical Education (HPE)
  • Admission to Licensure Track: Complete all General Education and Pre-Licensure requirements
  • Application: Deadline = March 1 for Fall entrance; October 1 for Spring entrance
  • Min. major credits: 82-94
  • Min. C- grade in basic science courses; min. B- grade in all other major courses

Requirements


Health and Physical Education Related Requirements (61 credits) (some courses are only offered once a year)


Restricted Licensure Track Requirements (21-33 credits) (Must be admitted to licensure track)


Secondary or Elementary Licensure = 1 semester (12 credits) of student teaching
K-12 Licensure = 2 semesters (24 credits) of student teaching

Professional HPE Core

KRS 402E  and KRS 404  must be taken concurrently.

KRS 405 -KRS 406 : Concurrent registration required; demonstrate content knowledge in subject area(s) in order to submit a Student Teaching Application.

Teacher candidates must hold current First Aid and CPR (Adult, Infant, and Child) certification; and current NEA membership is required for (KRS 402E -KRS 404 ).

KRS 405  and KRS 406  require a minimum grade of B or better. Elementary and/or secondary residencies must be successfully completed for certification and licensure.
